Mist holds the forest
In its dark embrace
The sound of human footsteps
Disturbs not this place

Prodigious trees enduring
Unmatched in might and span
Protectors of the forest
Like stalwart knights they stand

Looking west, the dark expanse
Meets their sullen eyes
The men recall the legend
And breathe impatient sighs

A river flows like blood in veins
Branching left to right
Water so pure and gentle
Water full of life

This is the fairest of havens
Where hearty creatures thrive
They take their gifts for granted
And their innocent lives

The men are ready to march now
The night is black and still
Torches flicker with uncertainty
Axes eager to kill

Rip
Tear
Mutilate

Crush
Burn
Suffocate

Maim
Kill
Decimate

A sea of ember and ash
A field of flame and sparks
What was once majestic
Is now dismal and stark

This is the shallow grave
Of those who did not flee
Above their corpses dance
The fires of uncertainty
